Spring Semester "Test" Speech
- Your semester speech will have a spring or summer theme
- You may choose any type of speech for your semester speech, but the time requirement will be the same for all
- Think of the speeches you've given this semester. Which one was most comfortable for you? Which one was most interesting/fun for you or the audience?
- Speech will be between 4-7 minutes - you will lose points if you are not within that range
- Type an outline including intro, body, and conclusion to turn in on the day of your speech
- For your outline, go to the original speech requirements page and grab that outline
- Use a minimum of two sources
- Create a Works Cited page - please use easybib.com to do this correctly
- Create a visual aid to assist you in giving your speech - see below
- At the podium, you will be allowed to have one notecard
- Mrs. Eichhorn and I will NOT print for you on May 20th. Plan ahead.
- TURN IN - outline, works cited, notecard, visual aid (if possible) on the day of your speech
- Speeches are Friday, May 20 during our semester testing block from 9:35-10:50
Ideas
- Demonstrate how to wrap a Mother's Day present
- Inform us of the top ten most beautiful beaches around the world
- Persuade us to vacation at Lake Okoboji
- Entertain us with fun facts and celebration practices about Independence Day
- Sell us one of the top ten gadgets for graduates
- Demonstrate how to plant flowers
- Inform us of the meaning of putting flowers on graves for Memorial Day
- Persuade us to wakeboard
- Entertain us with the most thrilling carnival rides out there
Visual Aid
- Choose or create wisely.
- A video should not just repeat what you say in your speech, nor should the video do all the talking for you.
- A poster or powerpoint should include great information/graphics you can show during your speech.
- A powerpoint should have minimal words - it needs to be primarily visuals
- It would be BEST if your visual aid was WITHIN the speech so that you can lead us into it, take us out of it, and still have a solid conclusion at the end of your speech.
- Prepare your visual aid early so you can practice with it to know if you are within time.
