- 1st period - Friday, May 30; 8:20-9:50
- 7th period - Friday, May 30; 12:20-1:50
For your semester test grade, you will be giving a spring/summer themed speech.
- Speeches will begin in regular class on Wednesday, May 28 and will finish during our semester testing block
- Even if you give your speech on Wednesday, you are still required to be here for our testing block
- Students who have a C or higher and are in good standing in the class will be allowed to leave after the one-hour minimum is reached AND speeches are complete
Requirements
- Pick a type of speech
- Think of the speeches you've given this semester. Which one was most comfortable for you? Which one did you get an A? Which one was most interesting/fun for you or the audience?
- You may choose any type of speech for your final speech - to inform, to persuade, to demonstrate, to entertain, to sell...
- Semester speeches will be between four (4) and eight (8) minutes long. You will lose points if you are not within this time range.
- Type an outline including introduction, body, and conclusion to turn in on the day of your speech.
- Use a minimum of two (2) sources
- Create a Works Cited page - please use easybib.com to do this correctly so you don't miss unnecessary points - see below
- A visual aid is not a requirement but may be a good idea
- At the podium, you will be allowed to have one notecard
- TURN IN - outline, works cited, notecard, on the day of your speech
- Speeches begin Wednesday, May 28 and will finish during the semester testing block
Ideas
- Demonstrate how to wrap a Mother's Day present
- Inform us of the top ten most beautiful beaches around the world
- Persuade us to vacation at Lake Okoboji
- Entertain us with fun facts and celebration practices about Independence Day
- Sell us one of the top ten gadgets for graduates
- Demonstrate how to plant a garden
- Inform us of the significance of putting flowers on graves for Memorial Day
- Persuade us to wakeboard
- Entertain us with the tallest water slides in the world
Visual Aid
- Choose or create wisely.
- Showing the visual aid does count towards your time limit of 4-8 minutes.
- A video should not just repeat what you say in your speech, nor should the video do all the talking for you.
- A poster or powerpoint should include great information/graphics you can show during your speech.
- A powerpoint should have minimal words - it needs to be primarily visuals
- A few of you have run into the problem of showing your visual aid at the very end as an afterthought.
- It would be BEST if your visual aid was WITHIN the speech so that you can lead us into it, take us out of it, and still have a solid conclusion at the end of your speech.
- Prepare your visual aid early so you can practice with it to know if you are within time.
