Demonstration Speech
Very simply, a demonstration speech is a "how-to" speech. You will demonstrate a process at which you excel......How to brush your teeth, how to bake a cake, how to change a tire, how to do a backflip, etc…You will be responsible for bringing in all needed supplies. If you choose a process such as baking cookies, you’ll need to bring the ingredients to show the process as well as a finished product.

For the demonstration speech, you may choose to work with a partner if you'd like.
- Choose your partner wisely
- You and your partner should work well together and play off each other as you're giving the speech and showing the process.
- Each person should have equal responsibility in preparation and delivery.
- If you and your partner do not work well together and I have to chat with you even once, your partnership will break up =( and you will each pick a new topic.
Requirements
- Demonstration speeches will be a minimum of four (4) minutes long
- No maximum time, though I wouldn't aim for 20 minutes
- Type or write an outline including introduction, body, and conclusion to turn in on the day of your speech
- You will be allowed two (2) notecards at the podium/table - use them wisely
- You must use at least one source
- Create a Works Cited page at easybib.com
- During the doing part of a demonstration speech, sometimes it's difficult to fill the silences. To keep these from being awkward, you will create a visual aid to assist you. See below.
- TURN IN/EMAIL - outline, works cited, note cards, visual aid (if possible) on the day of your speech
- Speeches begin Tuesday, March 10!!
Visual
- You will need some kind of visual aid with fun facts about your process, a diagram of the process, etc...
- Choose or create wisely.
- Showing the visual aid does count towards your time of four minutes minimum.
- Since the point of a demonstration speech is to see you doing something, a video is probably not the best idea.
- A picture, poster, or powerpoint should include great information/graphics you can show during your speech.
- Some of you are missing points on your conclusion because you're giving your entire speech (including conclusion) and then showing the visual. This causes awkward confusion at the end - we don't know when you're actually done and when we should start clapping.
- It would be BEST if your visual aid was WITHIN the speech so that you can lead us into it, take us out of it, and still have a solid conclusion at the end of your speech.
- Prepare your visual aid early so you can practice with it to know if you have enough speaking time.
- If you do choose a video, it should not do all the talking or showing for you. It needs to serve as an assistant to you.
- You will turn in your visual aid if possible on the day of your speech - obviously you can't turn in a video.
